learning to cook in your 30’s

WHERE TO BEGIN…

If you’re like me, the thought of deleting the delivery apps in favor of actually shopping for, prepping, and cooking was really daunting. Luckily, I have great family friends who gave me a crash course in Feeding Yourself as an Adult, 101. While I’m still very much in the “grasshopper” stage, here are some tips that helped me get started.

The Good Stuff

Here are some of my favorite recipes so far, with photos and links. Almost all of these are healthy, and all are delicious!

Grilled Salmon with Apricot Glaze

Grilled Salmon with Apricot Glaze

We eat this almost once a week - so good, quick, and easy! Shown here with roasted green beans and whole wheat couscous

Dijon+Salmon+w%2F+Green+Bean+Pilaf

Dijon Salmon with Green Bean Pilaf

I love when a recipe gives you an entire meal, not just one entree - this one took 30 minutes start to finish. My husband loved this so much he was literally stealing bites off my plate

Med Tuna Salad

Mediterranean Tuna-Spinach Salad

When plain tuna is too boring, this is a favorite lunch staple and takes only minutes. Shown here with blood orange slices.

Shrimp & Grits

Marie & Ellen’s Shrimp & Grits

This one is not healthy, but save for a special occasion and it’s worth every bite! This is a family friend’s recipe, adapted from Emeril.

Falafel Bowls

Meal-Prep Falafel Bowls with Tahini Sauce

These are a great lunch to prep night before, and the homemade tahini sauce is great with pita or as a salad dressing.

Chicken Veg Penne w/ Pesto

Chicken Vegetable Penne with Parsley-Walnut Pesto

Using green beans and cauliflower makes this dish lighter and less carb-heavy without sacrificing any of the taste. SO GOOD when you want a guilt-free pasta night.
